Movement, or In Search of PE – Jan Cieślak
Movement is a rather strange animal – young, with blurred boundaries and considerable intra-species diversity. But it’s certainly a thinking animal: solving problems, playing games, and constantly searching for new ideas for movement. It has a rich evolutionary history: a bit of gymnastics, a bit of dance, plus martial arts, chi gong, circus, and acrobatics. I mainly familiarized myself with it through dance – as a preparation for the body, giving it more space and freedom in improvisation – and that’s how I’d like to present it to you. But it has many benefits, not just for dancers: it strengthens, increases flexibility, develops coordination, and trains mindfulness.
In class, we’ll play movement games, roll, lose and regain balance, walk on all fours, and improvise with obstacles. There will be time for gentle joint lubrication and stretching, but in between, sweat will flow (no tears or blood planned).
Classes are open to everyone, regardless of age or experience level.

About me:
Over the past few years, I’ve been moving a lot and in a variety of ways. First and foremost, I’ve become deeply immersed in dance: butoh, contemporary, contact impro, Gaga, BMC, and physical theater. Looking for a more gymnastic and mobility-based supplement to my dance, I’ve been delving deeper into the world of movement and soft acrobatics. I’ve been attending regular classes and longer workshops (Movement Archery, Fighting Monkey). For a year, I also led movement workshops at my previous job, which I now want to bring to Kontakt in a new way, without having to come back to the office.
PS: During this same fall/winter period, I’ll also be teaching much more dance-oriented classes, with much more unusual music, inspired by butoh dance. Every Sunday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Thematically and with a separate entry, they will be separate from the movement, but I’m confident they will complement each other well. More information here:
