Sense of Rhythm is a unique workshop that will allow you to discover the enormous role rhythm plays in everyday life, music, and dance.

The rhythm of nature and the changing seasons have always been close to us. We’ve become accustomed to the rhythm of day and night determining our activities, just as breathing and heartbeat sustain life.

Whether you’re strolling leisurely or rushing somewhere, rhythm is always with you. When we walk in unison with someone, we naturally synchronize.

That’s the sense of rhythm.

If your heart is beating, you are a drummer.

Let the drum connect your heart with your hands.
Let your hands learn to dance.

The “Sense of Rhythm” workshop will help you gain a broader understanding of what rhythm actually is and its cultural and social functions. It’s a space to experience music through body, movement, and shared playing.

We welcome both those with no musical experience and those who already play and want to deepen their skills.

During the workshop, you’ll learn how to:
• verbalize even, odd, and irregular rhythms
• clap “one-handed” and “two-handed”
• understand double tempo
• consciously work with pauses and silence in music

Rhythms we’ll be working with:
✔ West African
✔ Middle Eastern
✔ Afro-Cuban

✨ What does drumming develop?

✔ a sense of relaxation and entering a trance state
✔ nonverbal expression of emotions
✔ motor coordination
✔ cognitive skills and concentration
✔ the ability to cooperate and build relationships in a group

Leader: Dominik Podgórski — “ethnopercussion pentathlete.”
He has participated in workshops led by artists such as Tahirou Djembe, Rhani Krija (Sting), and Sol Akinbola (Jamiroquai).

We provide instruments for participants — including vegetarian versions (Ashiko drums, Meinl djembe).
