“OH MY BODY” workshops for psychotherapists – Monika Kiwak / May 22, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

“OH MY BODY” Workshops for Psychotherapists

This workshop begins with feeling the body and exploring the imagination, and aims to be present with oneself and create one’s own improvised movement.

After a somatic warm-up based on touching one’s own body, we will move on to working with the body’s sensations and its reactions to the shape, sound, fantasies, and simple touch of another person. I will be inspired by the methodology of Australian artist Andrew Morrish, who recognizes sensations and imagination as always available parameters of the body. These same parameters allow improvising artists to dance a fully improvised solo or group performance.

The workshops aim to experience one’s body as it is in the moment, alone and with the assistance of another person who provides tactile and/or vocal input. In this part of the workshop, we also focus on pleasure, which we will refer to as pleasure for the exercise partner. I understand pleasure here—following Australian artists—as a tool for exploring one’s creative side and building self-confidence.

Given the specific nature of working with patients/clients, the workshops are intended only for psychotherapists to minimize the likelihood of encountering individuals participating in the therapeutic process.

Similar workshops were held during the 2024 Three Sections Conference.
