Movement from Feeling: Somatic Practices and Free Dance. Series of 3 workshops – JoannaKsiążkiewicz / June 16, 23, 30, 6:00 PM – 8:10 PM

I invite you to a series of three workshops, over six hours of Movement from Feeling practice in June. This series is open to both newcomers who would like to dare and become comfortable with free dance and somatic practices, as well as those who have been searching and finding their practice in this world for a while 🙂

It is possible to participate in individual classes, but I encourage you to attend all three meetings – it’s an opportunity to experience a glimpse of what regular practice offers during a longer series, which begins in the second half of September. Participating in classes for three consecutive weeks allows you to notice change and learn a rich range of methods and practices that, if you choose, can stay with you longer.
We practice not to burn calories or beautify our bodies – these are merely pleasant side effects.
We practice to shed unsupportive expectations of ourselves, to feel the beauty within ourselves – within the person living in their body, just as they are.  The beauty of being within yourself… and the beauty within another self.

Registration required: ruch.od.czucia@gmail.com.
More information can be found in the description (below a short English translation).

☀️

Dance as a path to yourself,
as a conversation with another person.
A return home – to your body.

I invite you to a practice that awakens, nourishes, and soothes.
A practice that allows you to meet yourself and others in mindfulness, flow, emotion, and joy.

To movement and dance that helps regulate the nervous system, release unnecessary tension, let life into the body, restore the free flow of energy in the body, and “regain feeling.”

To practices that connect, allow you to strengthen and regain a sense of belonging and trust – in yourself, your body, in others, and in the world.

☀️ABOUT THE METHOD AND PRACTICE

We will utilize original practices of conscious movement, familiarization with free dance, and bodywork. My experience is based on: Body Mind Centering (experiential anatomy, somatic education), Anna Halprin’s Life/Art Process, contact improvisation, meditation in movement, process-oriented psychology, Butoh, solo and group improvisation, Thai massage, authentic movement, voice workshops “Singing as Life Practice” with Emma Bonnici, and bodywork (bio) training.

Your experiences are a living source – I have been running regular, weekly classes in Krakow for over 7 years, and for 5 years in 10-16-week cycles in a regular group (mixed and women’s groups).

☀️FOR WHO?

These workshops are for you if you feel that:

Your body is giving you signals that it needs attention, and no movement practice you know or have found has yet captured your heart;

You want to get to know yourself better, gently examine your relationship with your body, and give it what is most precious: tender attention;

You want to spend time with others in an atmosphere of acceptance, freedom, and mindfulness;

You feel that something within you longs to dance, but something else has been holding you back (good fitness, high agility, or experience are not required for these workshops—openness to new experiences and a bit of courage are more important);

You dance, but you also want to express yourself and discover something more, or you don’t feel like repeating steps 🙂

You have no experience with dance or bodywork, but something is pulling you in this direction…

I believe that conscious movement is a benefit that we can all benefit from—regardless of ability, experience with movement, or blockages in our heads and other parts of ourselves. 🙂 Come if you feel this ‘calling’ while reading this description!

Important: you don’t have to be a dancer or have experience in conscious bodywork.  I gladly invite people to my classes who have “never done anything like this before.”

If you have, and you’re immersed in this world before, you’re also welcome. I conduct classes in a way that allows for valuable participation from people at various levels of familiarity with the topics of free movement, improvisation, and bodywork.

☀️REVIEWS

Some feedback from participants of previous series and workshops on movement from feeling:

“What happened to me personally was opening up, putting aside shame, starting from a place where it was difficult for me to jump, sigh, stretch my arms, and even occupy any space, and ending in comfort, joyful frolicking, enthusiasm, and the mental ability to perform full, open, pleasant, and spontaneous movements in various spaces. (…) These classes work both before, during, and after, and they gave me a huge opportunity to observe and understand the different mechanisms of my behavior and interaction with the world through something so relatively simple, yet at the same time infinite in its possibilities.”  It gives, like movement.” Ania

“I wanted to say that after the workshops you led, I feel grateful and at peace. In the space you created, I felt safe and accepted. The fear of being with people faded into the background, as if it had dissolved. Thank you for your company during the workshop process, for the warmth, wisdom, and tenderness you shared.” Paulina

“Thank you for opening my heart through dance. For showing me new qualities in movement. For the softness, subtlety, and a touch of madness.

I can say without a doubt that the “Movement from Feeling” workshops were a breakthrough moment in my life. Magical things are happening now, both with my body and mind. I am incredibly grateful that our paths crossed at this point in my life. And you also express gratitude for this for other people. I feel you can heal through dance. Thank you!!” A.

☀️ MORE ABOUT SWOBODNÓ  DANCE

I’ll invite you to begin with a few simple (and extraordinary) practices – you’ll remind your body that it doesn’t take much to make movement a little more effortless, and for your nervous system to slowly transition from a state of alertness to relaxation and release. The vagus nerve will feel invited to the class… 🙂 as will other familiar and unfamiliar areas of your body. By stimulating your imagination, but also deepening your awareness of sensation, we’ll stir up what wants and needs to be stirred and expressed more freely in spontaneous, wild, and tender expression. If you’re still having trouble visualizing this, don’t worry – I WILL GUIDE YOU WITH MY VOICE SO THAT YOU WON’T EVEN NOTICE WHEN YOU START DANCE. 🙂

☀️ MORE ABOUT BODYWORK WORKSHOPS
During these classes, we will use simple, deeply relaxing “bodywork” techniques—bodywork techniques that are usually performed in pairs, introduced carefully and gradually, so that everyone can become comfortable with being both the receiver and the giver/supporter. Being the receiver allows you to release tension, inspires trust, sometimes emotion, and deep relief. In turn, being the supporter can strengthen or awaken trust in your intuition, teaches you to tune in to another person, and becomes a beautiful practice of being here and now. This has been a favorite, constantly evolving practice in recent years, and is part of the Movement from Feeling workshops.

The suggested practices draw from, among others, Thai massage, elements of the Ilan Lev Method, and the somatic practices of Body Mind Centering.

Joanna Książkiewicz
“I love listening to the wisdom of the body, moving, dancing, and connecting. I draw strength from singing, dancing, and contact with nature. I am captivated by how the paths of our movement reveal and help transform what is playing in our mind and soul.”

BIO
I have been dancing since childhood, and for 15 years I have been immersed in conscious bodywork. For over 7 years, I have been passionately leading movement from feeling. 🙂

I also work with youth in alternative education. A psychologist by training, I graduated from a two-year study program in Process Psychology and am currently training at the Polish Institute of Integrative Psychotherapy.  Her most important training includes those in the Somatic Movement Educator program, which focuses on Body Mind Centering, improvisation methodology with Iwona Olszowska, the “Negotiating with the Body – Controlling and Utilizing Pain and Other Body Symptoms” training at the Polish Erickson Institute, the year-long “Dance and Gestalt Therapy Based on Anna Halprin’s Life/Art Process” training program with Ursula Schorn, and the “Singing as Life Practice” workshop with Emma Bonnici (voice work and group process). Her most valuable experience includes hundreds of hours of original workshops conducted using her original “Movement from Feeling” method.

She continually expands her skills by participating in classes in various dance techniques and mind-body methods, such as butoh, CI, gaga, Bodynamic, BMC, clowning, stage movement, and others.  Since 2018, she has been creating and leading regular, original dance and bodywork workshops in Poland and abroad under the brand Ruch od czucia (Movement from Feeling). She also hosts series in Krakow with a regular group, as well as weekend and travel workshops. This is her main, ongoing work and greatest passion.
