TERESA MIRGA AND KAŁE BAŁA In addition to Teresa Mirga’s own compositions and the melodies of the Hungarian Gypsies, the group also performs songs belonging to the musical tradition of the Gypsies in Slovakia and the Balkans, as well as old songs (purane gila) of the Carpathian Gypsies in traditional and completely new arrangements. Recalling the oldest and forgotten melodies with which Gypsies once expressed their deepest feelings, the musicians of Kałe Bała revive the magical world of Carpathian Gypsies, with its passion, joys, sorrows and nostalgia. During its several years of activity, the band Kałe Bała released many albums. The band was also featured on two album compilations released by Polish Radio: – Romowie – Minorities National part. II and on the album:- “Crossroads 2000. Traditional Music Festival”, as winners of the Malopolska Traditional Music Competition in 1999.

The band Kałe Bała took part in numerous festivals and competitions. It also gave concerts abroad (Sweden, Germany, Great Britain) and made numerous recordings for the Polish Radio and Television. P. Teresa Mirga also gave concerts with Kayah.

Teresa Mirga – Gypsy poet, singer, guitarist, founder and leader of the Gypsy band Kałe Bała (Czarne Hair). She was born and grew up in the Polish Spisz, in a gypsy settlement in Czarna Góra, where she lives to this day. It comes from the Carpathian Gypsies, one of the four Gypsy groups living in Poland, which has been leading a sedentary lifestyle for several centuries. Teresa Mirga began composing her songs in the early 90s. Her creative search, reaching for various styles and repertoires, as well as a deeply rooted awareness of her own musical tradition, allowed her to create her own original style, in which poetry and religious music play an important role. She presents her work during solo performances and together with the band Kałe Bała, which she founded in 1992. Teresa Mirgi’s poetry has been published in three volumes of poems: Soske jackdaw? (1992), Songs from Czarna Góra (1999) and Poems and Songs (2006).
