Deeper Ground – Contact Improvisation Workshop with Paweł Kubiak / May 25

What qualities become available when we stop playing the assigned roles – “the one who carries” and “the one who is carried”? What happens when we allow the lifts to emerge from dialogue, not from intention? What does co-creation of movement look like when both people simultaneously listen and propose?

During the workshop, we will immerse ourselves in the exploration of lifts in contact improvisation, treating them not as an effect of force or technique, but as a result of mindful presence, listening and reaction to unexpected situations. Through somatic research and dynamic experiments, we will look at how lifts can emerge organically from dance – as a response to a moment, an impulse, a shared rhythm.

The title “deeper ground” is a metaphor for the quality of the meeting that goes beyond the obvious – it is not about who gives support and who receives it, but about the space of co-presence, reciprocity and extended care. We will meet on a plane where movement becomes dialogue, and uplifting – a joint creative act, not a one-sided action. The workshop will be a space for play, mindfulness, risk and trust – without striving for form, with openness to the process.

The workshop is open to anyone who wants to explore the described qualities with curiosity and openness – regardless of previous experience.
