Butoh is a “modern” Japanese dance that originated in the 1950s as a result of a search for new forms of expression. Based on a deep connection with the body, it allows for self-discovery through the exploration and integration of emotions, dreams, archetypes, symbols, and elements of nature. The dancer opens up to profound insights that allow them to go beyond familiar patterns of expression. This way, their movement is always fresh and unique, and dance becomes a ritual, creative, and liberating process.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Krzysztof Jerzak – butoh dancer, choreographer, and aikidoka. He began training in aikido in 1987 and taught regularly from 2003 to 2020. He currently holds a 4th dan master’s degree.
He was the founder and teacher of the Kobayashi Hirokazu Aikido Academy in Krakow.
In 1999, he also began studying Japanese butoh dance. He has taken lessons from Daisuke Yoshimoto, Itto Morita, Atsushi Takenouchi, Imre Thormann, Katsura Kan, and others. His portfolio includes several solo performances: “Szczery?” (2002), “Beyond” (2005), “Straw-butoh” (2009), “Dividing” (2019), “Words, Words, Words…” (2019), “Hana no michi” – The Way of Flowers (2020), and “The Mirror” (2023).

In 2004, he led a year-long project called “Integration in Dance Therapy,” which also included deaf and hard of hearing individuals. For the participants, he wrote and directed the performance “Flowers on the Sidewalk.” Between 2005 and 2011, he collaborated frequently with independent artists: musicians, actors, dancers, and filmmakers, co-creating stage and film presentations. In 2008, he co-created the performance “Aite” (choreography and dance) with the Do-Teatr group. In 2021-2022, he led a year-long project of intensive butoh workshops, choreographing and directing the performance “Absolutely Nothing” for the participants. He regularly leads workshops in Poland and abroad (Germany, Scotland, and Spain).
