Presented by: Dr. Fleet Maull
Join Dr. Fleet Maull—a renowned meditation teacher, neurobiologist, and founder of Neuro-Somatic Mindfulness™ (NSM)—to explore one of the most compelling psychological and developmental paradoxes: how the very things that broke us—often perceived merely as burdens to be discarded—can, through a process of transformation, become the source of our greatest strength.
This workshop is rooted in the core premise that trauma need not be a life sentence or an insurmountable obstacle. Instead—when viewed through the lenses of neurobiology and Buddhist practice—it can serve as the raw material for building deeper awareness, resilience, and sensitivity. Having navigated years of imprisonment and personal crises himself before becoming an accomplished teacher, Fleet Maull understands that our most difficult experiences often serve as turning points on the path toward transformation.
At the heart of the Buddhist approach to working with obstacles lies this very principle: shifting one’s perspective on what we have experienced—our traumas, our coping strategies, and so on. While we cannot change the past, through wisdom and compassion, we can transform how we behave and respond to the situations we encounter in life. By understanding that any “difficult” or “negative” states of mind are not objectively, independently existing entities external to us, we learn to integrate and embrace them—with kindness and curiosity—as phenomena “produced” by our own minds. This stands in contrast to reacting with aversion, acting out, repressing, rejecting, or ignoring them. We begin to realize that obstacles are not things to be bypassed, but rather elements that can be “taken onto the path” and transformed into a means toward awakening. The Buddha himself did not flee from suffering; instead, he confronted it directly, recognizing that the very act of fully examining pain holds the potential for liberation. In Buddhist psychology, suffering (*dukkha*) is not something to be eliminated at all costs, but rather something that can be transformed through mindfulness (*sati*), compassion (*karuṇā*), and wisdom (*paññā*/*prajna*). This approach aligns with a neurobiological understanding of trauma as a pattern of “stuckness” within the nervous system—a state that can be loosened and reshaped through mindful, embodied practice.
In his program, Fleet Maull presents the “Neuro-Somatic Mindfulness” method, which integrates classical meditative techniques—such as Mahamudra, Dzogchen, and Shikantaza—with insights into neural networks and emotional regulation. Participants in this workshop will learn practical tools for working with their own nervous system: how to recognize states of being “stuck,” how to enter states of deep “flow”—where the nervous system begins to untangle and heal—and how to build internal physical, emotional, and cognitive coherence. A key element here is gentleness—an absence of aggression toward oneself—along with a readiness for a gradual, safe return to the body.
The program is open to everyone; no prior experience with meditation or Buddhism is required. We invite those who wish to work consciously with their own life experiences, are seeking practical self-regulation tools, and are curious about how Buddhist tradition and modern science can complement each other in the healing process. Join us this November at “Kontakt. Przestrzeń Ruchu i Tańca” (Contact: Space for Movement and Dance) to discover together how our deepest wounds can become a foundation for awakening and a source of our greatest strength.

Today, there are over seventy-five prison hospice programs and several hundred Dharma and mindfulness-based projects and programs within prisons across the United States.
Each year, during his visits to Poland for the “Bearing Witness” retreat in Oświęcim, Fleet also conducts workshops in Kraków. The first of these took place in November 2010; since then, we have organized approximately 20 meditation and personal development programs with him.
