Contact Improvisation Practice
19:30 – 20:45

In the Presence of Dance: short fil screening: (part 1 / 18:00-19:30)

You are invited to a curated screening of independent short films celebrating the richness of the dance form contact improvisation. We will begin with some historical references, discussing the origins of this practice in the 70’s and listening to words from key figures… then travel into creative expressions of the practice today, including the intimate relationship between contact improvisation and forces of nature.

This is a moment of meeting – for people who are curious about, or already dedicated to the practice of Contact Improvisation. We will have an opportunity to absorb the films, as well as discuss what they move in us – allowing us to celebrate all this form can be.

In the Presence of Dance: CONTACT IMPROVISATION PRACTICE: (part 2 / 19:30 – 20:45 )

Developing after the film screening, we will explore witnessing as support in improvisation and collaboration.

What if our dialogue is not only with a partner, but with the whole space?
How can we support each other’s awareness?
What does it mean to be part of a group, and co-create the space we dance in?
How can my gaze be neutral, non-judgmental, accepting, curious?
How can my movement be neutral, non-judgmental, accepting, curious?

We will not focus on ‘showing’ anything, but gathering our attention to one another, sharing our focus and energy. Perhaps finding something which we couldn’t imagine – until it happens.

You’re welcome to join both parts, or just one.
The film screening is donation based
The CI practice follows the usual pricing structure

This session will be facilitated by Alexandra & friends. (info coming soon)

She generally lives and dances in Thailand, researching CI as a space that transcends cultural barriers and opens much needed states of listening and mutual support.
