AUSTRALIAN VERY OPEN – SOLO IMPROVISATION AS PERFORMANCE (body and voice) – Monika Kiwak / SUNDAY, MAY 18, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

I invite you to workshops on improvisation as a stage form. I invite lovers of improvisation and people with experience in movement and dance. We will practice with inspirations that I brought from Australia, mainly from the extraordinary teacher Andrew Morrish. We will improvise for pleasure and to explore our imagination, create poetic movement and voice statements.

Andrew Morrish is an exceptional teacher. With Australian lightness and a sense of humour, he supports artists in building confidence in themselves, organising feedback around one task: naming their pleasure. I learned his precise methodology of teaching improvisation in Poland, Sweden (National Institute of Music and Dance Scholarship) and in Australia (thanks to the support of Andrew Morrish, Rosalind Crisp and the Australian government). I had the honour of performing with Andrew and Aleksandra Bożek – Muszyńska in Australia and practicing improvisation with artists with whom Andrew practices.

For Andrew Morrish, body sensations and imagination are an inexhaustible source of movement and storytelling. The improvisations that emerged from them surprise with their mood, play with words and sense of humour. For you, it will be an experience of being close to yourself and being surprised by your imagination.

What does improvisation in the style we will be learning about during the workshops look like? Come to a solo performance at Kontakt. Space of Movement, Dance and Music on 13.04 and/or 11.05, at 20:45, duration 13 min + 7 min conversation, free admission

About the instructor:
I am an artist, improviser, in love with contemporary dance since the first lesson with Iwona Olszowska in 2003. The infatuation turned into a love for improvisation with the Body Mind Centering approach, an approach combining anatomy and imagination. At the same time, I was fascinated by new choreography and as a scholarship holder of Stary Browar Nowy Taniec I came across coaching with Andrew Morrish in 2017. I fell in love with this approach to improvisation.
