Maybe you dance for a year or a few years and you have tried to improvise or create your own movement more than once, but you still do not feel completely at ease expressing yourself and showing your unique way of moving.
Sometimes thoughts are disturbing, sometimes shyness, other times there is no inspiration or stimulus – there is always something that blocks free expression and honesty.
Moving away from overbuilt content, the desire to prove anything and overgrown forms, in this workshop we will return to the basics of composing movement and dance improvisation.
We will do this to recognize and stabilize the keys within us that help us engage our mind, emotions and imagination in dance and allow ourselves freedom and full expression.
The aim of the practice will be to express the stories that are already in us and create a place for them when we enter the dance floor. Without inventing, overproducing or running away, but in sincere exploration of ourselves and what is available to us at the moment.
We will ask:
– what am I with now and how can I express it?
– to what extent can the mere intention to move and be in space lead me?
– how and when history is made in motion?
– how to take inspiration from my immediate surroundings, the space in which I am, the surrounding colors, shapes, sounds and people to stay involved in improvisation and create movement?
We will uncover:
– the role of intention in building traffic,
– ways to locate presence in space (inside, body, kinesfer, outside the kinesfer) and in a group (from & to)
– ways to “take” from the inside and express our emotions and feelings in motion through the technique of social presencing theater,
– ways to “take” from the outside and engage the imagination during movement improvisation.
Who will benefit from the workshops?
– anyone who is interested in how to consciously express themselves through movement and how to tell living stories through movement and dance,
– anyone who wants to develop their improvisation and movement composing skills or for whom improvisation is a blockade,
– anyone interested in working with emotions in motion,
– everyone who is interested in working with imagination,
– anyone who appreciates authenticity in dance.

Direct inspiration for the workshop is participation in the performative project “First there was wo.man, then there was dance” led by Israeli choreographer Edo Ceder during the Warsaw Festival Kontakt Improvisation Flow.
Host: Magdalena Burtan – an ocean of ideas, a wild river, a lover of deep waters. As an artist, she moves at the meeting point of contemporary dance, street styles and physical theater. She has been dancing since childhood, she was trained by choreographers and teachers such as Toogie Saurus, Hannes Langolf, Daria Halprin, Natan Daskal and Edo Ceder. She completed the Ways of Being dance composition and drama course, explored trance dance states as part of Ilona Gumowska’s project, and created a movement for Weronika Wardak’s music video.
